Creamy Dreamy ? Not so sure

I made this cream scarf last night and I’m just not sure about it and whether I like it or not.

The intended recipient said that she likes neutral colours such as browns.

Does it need anything added to it? I’m not so sure because the stitch is quite ‘busy.’

Not sure a border would work, she’s not into flowers and a brown butterfly would pretty much be a moth!

Any comments and suggestions gratefully received.

Sheeny shiny rainbow scarf

The Sky can’t make it’s mind up whether to be sunny, or full of fat raindrops, but there is definitely more of an Autumnal chill in the air.

So I’m making a shiny rainbow scarf  and this is one WIP I know I will finish.

I love the yarn I’m using which is king cole riot chunky and the box stitch isn’t getting boring.

When everything is a bit grey, this rainbow is making me happy.

Happy crafting x

Holding your hook: How do you hook yours?

Do you hold your hook like a dinner fork?

image image image image

Like you are holding a pencil?

I’m overthinking it, but as an OT wondering what is the best approach, which would be the least likely to cause repetitive injuries?

As an impatient crocheter I’m wondering which approach gets the fastest results?

I’m also wondering about if there are more efficient techniques I should adopt. For example am I holding the yarn wrong?

I’m not sure I crochet in a usual way- “you’re doing it all wrong, you are knitting with it. It’s wrong” was a recent comment.

Here’s how I do it. I’ve started a shrug for the Autumn.

I’m curious, but know the most important thing is Not how we hold it, but that it makes us HaPpY

crochet phone cover for crochet phone case

Earlier on in the week I wrote a blog with my crochet phone cover as the star.

Well now I have (made it up as I went along) a lovely crochet cover for my crochet case.

It is made with drops 5 love you recycled cotton, which some people find splitty, but I love working with.

More importantly it’s a rainbow 😍🌈

I think that you can never have enough rainbows in your life

Crochet chair gets crochet cover

As an OT I believe that it is fundamental to our wellbeing that we engage in activities that are meaningful to us.

However, I also know the importance of good posture and about repetitive strain injuries.

So no more hunching over for me on the sofa while I crochet with my elbows unsupported. I’ve bought myself a chair that I can crochet comfortably in.

With a house that has sticky fingered ankle biters in, it is only right that my crochet chair gets its own crochet cover!

In not sure that I like the colours but do love the texture.

What’s on your hooks this evening?
I hope that you had a good Monday

Sssnake! (with lashes to die for)

image

This is one of my favourite ever makes. My draught excluding snake.

I didn’t have a pattern – just a very long rectangle, stuffed with a rolled up towel and joined together. Over the top I crocheted diagonally all over the existing work to give her texture.

Her eyes are circles made with shirt yarn and the lashes are tied on.

I think she’s a pretty glam snake. Do you ?

Thank you mini hooks

Good morning, afternoon or evening.

I’m feeling a bit sleepy this morning and reluctant to get out of my bed but work is calling.

I’m trying to muster the energy to feel happy this morning and then I spied my new simply crochet magazine and the little freebie that came with it.

How fab are these?!

It’s the small things but these mini hooks make me smile. Portable crochet 🙂

I’m going to try and be thankful and grateful today for life’s small pleasures even at work when I’d rather be home hooking or on a beach with my babies.

What small things make you smile ?

Have a lovely day

Blogs allow us to share our stories but what’s your crochet story?

As a qualified occupational therapist I’m so so interested  in the way in which we engage in daily activities and the meaning we give to them. I think that the benefits to wellbeing of doing something we love are beyond huge and cannot be measured.

I learnt to crochet in my lunch break at work in a hospital and have found it helps to reduce my anxiety, makes me feel productive and allows me to be creative. That it allows me almost to be mindful and meditative all at once.

That’s a bit of my story but I’m wondering why YOU crochet or take part in other crafts? How did you learn? What benefit does it have to you ?
